Horse racing & greyhounds

Racing is where a price can change twice, first when a bet is placed and again at the off, so the vocabulary of price matters more than in any other sport. This section is built around that idea.

Starting price comes first, then ante-post, non-runners and the Rule 4 deduction, which trims returns when a horse is withdrawn. Each-way bets pair a win bet with a place bet, doubling the stake; place terms come from the market.

The reason given for keeping remote UK horse-racing bets at 15% General Betting Duty is the Horserace Betting Levy, set at 10% of operator profits on GB horseracing bets over a £500,000 exempt amount. Other remote betting is due to reach 25% on 1 April 2027.
